Sister Merry Pugnacious Has a Word for It:

Only God knows how a thing like this gets started. I started calling this little deaf Boston girl "Holly" because she arrived at my house just before Christmas. Then I had a friend in the UK with a deaf pug, whom she named "Pearlyclothears" because Pearly also is deaf and I was informed that "cloth ears" was an English children's term for someone who couldn't hear well. Thus my Holly became "Holly Cloth Ears." She is a bossy, dominating--and truthfully, sometimes rather ornery little girl, whom I love dearly, but somehow, "Holly Cloth Ears" became "Holly Clop" or "Holly the Clop. Because IThen,  because  the way she treated the  pugs somehow reminded me of some of the nuns I had known in my variegated past, I began calling her Sister Merry Pugnacious.

Catholics, one and all, please forgive me. I simply couldn't resist. I tried. I could not. It was impossible. Sigh!
