A WORD FROM THE OLD GUY WHO'S DEAF AND BLIND:
This is Augie, our blind and deaf rescue. This is what Augie does when he is “looking” for something.
Augie may be blind, but even he can see that there is something wrong in the state of Maryland when a woman of the quality of Elsa Newman is in prison for a non-existent crime. Augie may be deaf, but even he can hear the wails of the angels who observe the pain of Elsa and her sons.
And as for smell? He’s good at that. Remember Shakespeare’s Hamlet and “There’s something rotten in the state of Denmark”? Well…only this morning I overheard Augie talking to Adelle, remarking, “You know ‘Dell…I fink inna ole heart an’ soul ‘at ‘ere sumpin’ rotten inna ole state of Marylan’ inna ole US of A.”With Augie, you see, in order to get quotations, I must eavesdrop, since the boy talks to no one but Adelle. I believe I’ve mentioned before that she is his world. Thus she is the only one with whom he communicates.
Even if I have to gain the information by listening in on other people’s conversations, I’m glad to know we have another pug stepping out in support of Elsa and her children.
